A creative dumping ground for issues that interest me personally and professionally, with the thought they may interest you too. Issues such as the business of design, the design of business, the design of objects, design strategy, creative direction, innovation, creativity, thought leadership, observations, as well as recommendations, mid-century modern decorative arts and architecture, and the state of my thinking (and currently the state of my heart).

Jubilee Furniture - What Caught My Eye

Photography is a hobby, and today I had a chance to shoot a few pieces of Jubilee Furniture's current inventory that caught my eye. If you haven't been there recently, you should. Susan, Dave, Connie and all the other great people at Jubilee put in a lot of work to keep the donations streaming through, and a few new business relationships with impressive local big name companies have made the prospect of getting interesting new donations a reality. Judging by today's inventory, I am personally excited by how this may make things really interesting. For those who trust my eye and thrifting skills, understand that Jubilee just got even more interesting. As these partners deliver new furniture all across Chicagoland, the old stuff they remove (sometimes in like new condition) will end up at Jubilee.

I didn't take a ton of photos, but check out the stuff that caught my eye.

Great stuff! I wish there was a place like this in my area! Keep up the good work.

With Michigan's economy, and with Herman Miller, Steelcase, and Hayworth in the areas, there's GOT TO BE someplace like this. If not, you should start one. Susan's doing 7,000 weekends. This according to her blog. FYI - I grew up in Haslett, worked in East Lansing, Lansing and then Grand Rapids at points in my career.

Thanks for taking time to comment.

...I would add...Royal Oak is one of Michigan's coolest towns. Within driving distance of Cranbrook, all kinds of antique and thrift, and Sommerset. Or atleast they had all this about 15 years ago. I always LOVED Royal Oak. They had a great antique place next to some (blush) fetish Noir Leather store. Maybe it's still there. And for the record I know Noir because of the antique place, not visa versa. ;^)

Barry,

Have we met?

I feel like we must have, or need to because Jubilee is my second home. (I could have my mail sent there, honestly.)

M

That's funny. I have been going for several years having volunteered with Tyndale House Publishers when our company worked there in shifts for several months. Since then I have tried to be of help to Susan in various ways. One more public way was through a blog tour I began by contacting the great folks at Apartment Therapy, How About Orange, and other blogs who I thought might have readers who should know about Jubilee. Susan is a quick learner and she has since started her own blog and developed several new donor relationships.

Maybe Susan will introduce us.

Nice for you to comment and say hello.

Absolutely love Jubilee. Been there twice with the wife and kids just to look around and hang out. I'm glad they're getting more cool things, as I was a bit disappointed last time I was there about a year ago. Its good to see that a Christian charity is doing so well in these "omg tough economic times!"

Glad you like Jubille. They will likely be getting more and better as a result of recent new business relationships. Like any thrift, you find the choice items as a result of consistent visits. See Susan's Jubille Blog here:

Barry - Monique (and hubby and adorable son) usually comes into the store later on Friday than you, so I'm not surprised you two have never met. If I could ever make an introduction - you two would have a lot to talk about!
