What I'm listening to

A creative dumping ground for issues that interest me personally and professionally, with the thought they may interest you too. Issues such as the business of design, the design of business, the design of objects, design strategy, creative direction, innovation, creativity, thought leadership, observations, as well as recommendations, mid-century modern decorative arts and architecture, and the state of my thinking (and currently the state of my heart).

Something's on my mind, sleep won't make it right.
Are you ok? Can we talk tonight?
Wouldn't you agree we're on separate pages?
And I care too much to be ok with this.
Can you look me in the eye, tell me everything's alright?
Stay awake until we find a resolution.
This might hurt a bit, hearts were made to feel.
Is it worth it, to finally be real?
Can you look me in the eye, tell me everything's alright?
Stay awake until we find a resolution. (2x)
We were meant for more than this, to have a true relationship.
We were meant for so much more than this.
Can you look me in the eye, tell me everything's alright?
Stay awake until we find a resolution.
So just look me in the eye, tell me everything's alright?
Stay awake until we find a resolution.

So I am messing around with new apps a bit, trying to cut my teeth with design that moves, and in this case, grooves. This is just a one-off test using my various mid century modern housewares, furniture, and things I sell on etsy. Well, a small disclaimer...I have a ton of things yet to post on the CUR8TOR Shop. Stay tuned. And give me some feedback. I can take it. Rather...I can delete it.

For some bizarre reason which is not showing up on helps, forums or blogs, I'm experiencing problems with all of the playlists I have posted for your enjoyment recently. I clicked on a couple of the standalone player links in my posts and they either pop up with bad code, or worse yet, pop up with other people's playlists. In a couple instances I had a bunch of Eminem crap pop up. Sweet.
So, please be warned in the event this also happens to you. I have spent significant effort creating these playlists, and have tried to keep them tight and clean, and would hope you might still be able to enjoy this special BarryBlog feature. But since I'm all about accoutability and gurading your heart and all, I thought you might want to know.
So for now use your judgement on whether to go there or not. I will be on top of the answer, so no need to email me if you find errors.
Thanks, and hope you've enjoyed them in the past. When they are working, the posts that include them are Late March here, Zero 7 here, Feb. 08 here, and bt here.

Chicago native Brian Transeau goes by the name "bt." He's an incredible talent. I've developed a mix of his songs for you in the event you need some background music today. Just click the button below. It will launch a new web page with a standalone player you can have open in the background while you work. I tried to design an entire player interface into this post, but no matter what I did, I kept messing up the html embed code. I figure this pop up player is a great plan B.
If you're interested in learning more about Brian, hit his music website or Facebook profile. With a bit of curiosity and some research you'll discover the unfortunate fact that allegedly Brian's ex-wife ran off with his daughter and they were on the run for an extended period over the holidays until they were eventually located by authorities and his daughter subsequently returned. If any of this is true, I am sad. If it's not true, and has been fabricated as suggested by many posts online, I am also sad. The whole situation, true or not, was not a fun thing for anyone associated with this talented individual. But his music really is the opposite of this ugliness. It is very upbeat, intelligent, energetic and hopeful. I originally heard of his music and for some unknown reason thought he might be a brother in Christ. I am now not sure, but in any event he has been in my prayers, and I am appreciate of his talents and gifts. Hope you will enjoy his stuff, and then go out and buy some of his music.
If you're interested in a real informative how-to on his latest project, This Binary Universe, check out the video below. It is really very incredible to hear how it all came about, his personal thoughts, and some serious behind the scenes goodness- including how he captured some of the beats for the project in a Starbucks using an inconspicous M-Audio micro track recorder. He says his whole travel studio now consists of his 15 inch titanium Macbook pro and his 0-2. Amazing.

Finally—a solution that allows me to dump all the music from my external drive at work. With Simplify Media I now listen to all my iTune music that I have stored on my computer at home from my computer at work. And vise-versa. In fact one of my colleagues has invited me to listen to all his music on his home computer. So now I've enabled my account so he now listens to my mp3s. And the best part is it's legal, free, and no support is required. Killer app.
Here's how it works: Simplify Media software lets you browse and play remote music using the iTunes software interface. Music is streamed directly between computers over the Internet within small groups that you control. Your group can be made up entirely of your own computers, for example home and office. You can also invite friends to join. Once an invitation is accepted, you will be able to sort, search and play each other’s libraries when online, all within iTunes.
